Challenges

Make a web based application - a functional prototype that works equally well on these browsers - Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.

Select any one challenge from the list of 5 given below.

This app should be designed to provide security to women in a few or many scenarios. It can guide the path to safety, make SOS calls, allow the person be tracked, have SOS button, support gestures to initiate security actions or provide some threat mitigation features itself.

You can choose to make a web application or a mobile application.

If you are building a web application, your functional prototype should render equally well on these browsers - Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.

In phase 3 of the competition, you will be required to upload your functional prototype on GitHub along with a short 3-minute video explaining your application.

Upload this video on your favorite video sharing platform (like YouTube or Vimeo) and share the link of the video and your GitHub URL during the submission phase of the competition.

This application should be designed as a one stop health a fitness application for women through most stages of life – it includes regular fitness data, energy indicator, health monitors, guides through the health cycles that women may go through, and helps through specific health situations or illness – probably also helps women through rhythm of medication and tests that might be required.

This app should be designed to keep your family commitments, responsibilities and emotional connect going. It ensures that you have full handle on the concentric circles of your family tree. It helps you with the important dates, but goes beyond in helping you fulfil periodic commitments that you want it to fulfil. The family apps across your family talk to each other and create family scenarios. You would know if one of your distant cousin happen to be in the same airport waiting for the flight, and this is just an example.

Judging Criteria

The Judges will evaluate each criteria on a scale of 0 - 10. Take each criteria seriously.

Do you have a better approach (in terms of feature set / functionality) for solving the challenge that you pick than the feature set highlighted as examples on the website?

Judges will evaluate the technical achievement the team has tackled during the competition. You will be allowed to upload technical documents along with your web app URL. The technical documents could include architecture design, flowcharts, or technical specification of your prototype.

We will measure the size, consistency, structure, and complexity of your codebase on GitHub.

In phase 3 of the competition, you will be required to upload your functional prototype on GitHub along with a short 3-minute video explaining your application.

Stay as close to the problem statement as possible. Your prototype should take us closer to the goal that is highlighted on the website. This is done in order to ensure that the participants do not deviate from the challenge(s) that are posted on the website.

Yes, based on your code evaluations, you will be put forward to further interview rounds. Based on that we will be offering a full-time software engineer role to you.

You can write to the University Recruiting team and direct your queries to university@microsoft.com with the subject line "Microsoft Engage WIT Hackathon".

You can participate in only one challenge from the list of 5 challenges mentioned here.

Post the code evaluations we will conducting interviews for the shortlisted candidates. You will know more about the results by the end of this month (February).

Registration is to be done as an individual only.

You can switch challenges before the deadline of sharing your GitHub URL on Feb 12, 2021. If you do switch to a different challenge, please let your Mentor know. Remember that you can only participate in one challenge.
